Background and More
Michael considers himself a sound collector and uses a large selection of resonating metals from around the world that he has collected over the past 40+ years: gongs, singing bowls, rin bowls, bells, cymbals, chimes, kalimba and other instruments.
He brings a wealth of experience, having extensively researched and studied his instruments. When he teaches about them, he can put things into both an historical and cultural context; as well as demonstrating the sounds and techniques he uses in a meditation session or concert. Michael also presents composition and improvisation seminars for students at schools & universities, and has taught privately for the past 40 years.
He has presented workshops on gongs at the prestigious Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in 2005 & 2012; was the Artist in Residence at the 2016 MONA FOMA Festival in Hobart, Australia; has presented master classes at the GONG SUMMIT - in 2019/20/21, Gong Camp in 2021/22/23, and for the Focus Sulla Suonoterapia (Focus on Sound erapy) in Italy in 2021/22/23.
